Ways to plan a dream wedding without breaking the bank, according to experts

Sophie Collins

Planning a wedding can be a dream come true for some brides, but it often comes with a hefty price tag

With the cost of flowers, venues, catering, and other details rapidly adding up, it’s easy for costs to spiral out of control.

Research from Guides for Brides highlights the significant expense of wedding venues, for instance.

Despite these challenges, sticking to a budget is crucial for most couples.

Expert wedding planner and influencer Georgie Mitchell, founder of Georgina Rose Events, has listed her practical advice for achieving a beautiful wedding without putting yourself through financial strain.

Priorities

Georgie advises couples to focus their budget on what truly matters to them.

“When deciding on a budget, go back to what’s important to you as a couple,” she says.

“If you’re passionate about food, don’t skimp on that. Instead, allocate your budget to those key elements and make compromises elsewhere.

“For example, if you invest heavily in the food, consider skipping wedding favours.

“They’re often overlooked and not essential unless they have personal significance, like a meaningful item from a family tradition.”

Embrace DIY

Mitchell also suggests taking on DIY projects where possible.

“Think about what you can handle yourself, but do it well,” she recommends.

Simple tasks such as creating name cards and table numbers can be done on your own, potentially using tools like Canva.

“Spending a bit of time learning how to use design software can save you money and add a personal touch.”

Be Realistic

Finally, Georgie emphasises the importance of being realistic with your planning.

“Consider the number of guests and your budget. If you want to host 150 people with a €5,000 budget, it’s not feasible.

“Instead, you might have 25 guests for the daytime and 150 for the evening.

“Adjusting timings and opting for budget-friendly options like fish and chips for the evening can help manage costs.

“It’s better to do fewer things well rather than stretching your budget too thin and compromising on quality.”
