Her body was found at a domestic residence in Cavan
The woman killed in the horror Co. Cavan attack has been named locally as Annie Heyneman.
Gardaí in Co. Cavan launched an investigation after discovering a woman’s body at a domestic residence in a rural area near Ballyconnell.
The discovery was made on Saturday, January 11th.
Annie Heyneman, who was aged in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 60s was also found at the scene with serious injuries. He was rushed to Cavan General Hospital following the incident but remains in stable condition.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested following the attack.
He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Gardaí confirmed Annie Heyneman’s body has been conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The investigation is being led from an incident room at Cavan Garda Station. A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will be appointed in due course.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.
Anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, last night, Saturday 11th January 2025, between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm, is asked to provide Gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
