Storm Kathleen: Young girl safely rescued off the coast of Dún Laoghaire

She was rescued from the sea during Storm Kathleen

It is believed the child, aged between six and seven, got into difficulty in Dún Laoghaire during the storm.

According to reports, the girl was rescued from the sea off the coast of Dún Laoghaire on the evening of April 6th.

A rescue operation was launched shortly after 8 pm after the young girl was spotted in the water.

The RNLI, Dublin Fire Brigade, Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard, and National Ambulance Service attended the scene.

Gardaí also arrived at the scene of the incident.

According to reports, passersby tried to save the young girl at first but she was swept too far away.

She was later rescued by the RNLI.

The girl was taken to hospital following the incident, but she is doing well. She has non-life-threatening injuries.

The young girl was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

Andrew Sykes of the RNLI told RTÉ: "She was very calm, she was alert and awake, which really helped us to get hands onto her and back into the boat."

"It really hammers home the training we go through on a weekly basis to save lives at sea. This one rescue is going to stick with me for my whole life," he added.

The RNLI and emergency services have been praised for saving the young girl.
