A lump sum announced in Budget 2025 is on the way this week for carers in Ireland
The €400 boost should begin arriving in accounts this week, becoming one of several cash boosts since the October announcement.
Starting from Monday, November 11th, the payment is automatically being paid out to those in receipt of the Carer’s Support Grant.
This payment is usually delivered on a once-off basis each year in June, but this year will be supplemented with the November boost to further help carers.
The Carer’s Support Grant is available to people in receipt of the Carer’s Allowance (whether that be in full or at a half rate), Carer’s Benefit or Dominciliary Care Allowance.
If you’re not already receiving one of the above payments, you could still be eligible for this support grant if you are:
- Aged 16 or over
- Ordinarily resident in Ireland
- Caring for the person on a full-time basis
- Caring for the person for at least six months
- Living with the person being cared for (or if you don’t live with them, you must meet the criteria for example the person must be able to contact you quickly and directly).
During the period of care, a person in receipt of the Support Grant can’t:
- Work more than 18.5 hours per week (as an employee or in self-employment)
- Take part in an education or training course for more than 18.5 hours a week
- Get Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit
- Sign on for credited contributions
- Live in a hospital, convalescent home or similar institution
If you are eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant, the €400 lump sum will be given to you automatically, so you don’t need to apply.
This week, there will also be a €200 lump sum payment to nearly 254,000 people who are receiving the Living Alone Allowance.
