Met Éireann has issued a weather warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo ahead of the weekend.

Heavy winds are expected in the northwest of the country tonight through to 9am tomorrow, with gusts of up to 90 to 100km/h at times.

The windy conditions will continue into Saturday, with sunny spells and showers.

The forecasters have said that showers will be heavy and fairly widespread in the morning, but should become more scattered later in the afternoon.

Afternoon temperatures are down on normal levels for the time of year, staying between 12 and 17 degrees and best in the southeast.

Showers will die out on Saturday night and winds will ease, while Sunday will be dry for most areas with sunny spells throughout the day. Highest temperatures on Sunday of 13 to 17 degrees in mainly light breezes.
