The world’s biggest cruise ship is coming to Europe this summer – here’s what to expect

There's more to see and do than ever before on Royal Caribbean's new ship.

Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas made its inaugural voyage from Barcelona this weekend after a two-week Atlantic crossing from Florida. It's set to be based in the Mediterranean for summer, travelling from Barcelona to Rome for 7-day cruises and stopping off at some of Europe's best destinations - like Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Capri, Italy. At more than 18 decks high and boasting a length of 1,188 feet, the ship wins the title of biggest cruise in the world. It can carry almost 7,000 passengers at full occupancy in 2,867 cabins (and 188 premium suites on decks 17 and 18). And when the staff on board are factored in, we're nearing the 10,000 mark for the ship's total capacity. In comparison to its previous Oasis-class ships, Royal Caribbean has kicked things up a notch with the Wonder. With eight distinctive “neighbourhoods” on board, there's more to see and do than ever before. Unique on-deck activities include the tallest slide at sea, a surf simulator, zip lining, rock-climbing walls, and more. Guests will be spoilt for choice when it comes to bars and restaurants too, with over 40 to choose from. Many restaurants are complimentary, while speciality ones require an additional fee. From Asian cuisine to Southern-style classics, there's something for everyone. The stunning Vue Bar offers a panoramic ocean view all day, The Lime and Coconut bar exudes Caribbean vibes on the main pool deck, and there's even a Bionic Bar where a robot will make your drinks for you. Kids will be kept entertained with their very own pool area called Splashaway Bay, a carousel, and an underwater-themed outdoor play area. For teens, there's an arcade and designated hangout spots like Social100 and The Patio, where they can find a bar with a menu of eight mocktails. There's also an adults-only area on board, the Solarium, which features pools, hot tubs, and loungers, as well as its own bar and bistro. Incredible original entertainment takes place across four stages - air, ice, water and theatre. Highlights include ice skating, live music, DJ sets, and an aqua theatre show featuring an all-female cast of Olympic divers, aerialists, and synchronised swimmers. And for passengers wanting to go all out, there's Vitality Spa, which offers massage treatments, saunas, aromatherapy, and even Botox-style skin tightening. When you have some down time, you can enjoy a stroll on the promenade, the boardwalk, or  Central Park which is lined with over 20,000 real plants.
