Dublin has secured a spot among Europe's top city break destinations for day trips in a new ranking of 30 European cities.
Dublin ranked eighth on the list, compiled by travel and experiences provider TUI Musement. Researchers analysed Google search data to uncover the cities where travellers most often search for day trips, while also highlighting destinations that serve as gateways to exploring the wider region.
The study also points to a growing trend among city-break travellers: using short urban stays as a base to explore the surrounding countryside, coastal areas, and nearby cultural attractions.
The list reflects cities that combine major tourist appeal with easy access to popular day trips beyond just the city centre, from London and Paris to Rome and Barcelona.
The Irish capital ranked eighth overall, boosted by its popular nearby excursions, including the Cliffs of Moher, the Giant’s Causeway, and the Wicklow Mountains.
The Cliffs of Moher are among the most sought-after day trips from the capital, while the Giant’s Causeway also attracts significant interest from visitors heading north.
In addition, the Wicklow Mountains also feature prominently, offering scenic routes, walking trails and historic sites within easy reach of the city.
London topped the list, followed closely by Paris and Rome, with Edinburgh, Milan, Florence, Barcelona, Lisbon and Athens also featuring in the top ten.
The report highlights a growing shift toward “dual-destination” travel, where city breaks are increasingly paired with short excursions into surrounding regions.
The full ranking breakdown can be viewed here.
