If your dream honeymoon features cheese, chocolate and stunning mountain vistas straight out of a postcard, you've probably already looked up flights to Switzerland.

You wouldn't be alone in that either – this small but stunning country is experiencing a surge in popularity among newlyweds. It's now the number one honeymoon destination in Europe for Pinterest users.

Couples are increasingly considering Switzerland as a romantic post-wedding destination with a 856 per cent rise in pins for it in the last two years. We're not surprised.

Though many of us will think of skiing, snowboarding and cosy winter nights when we think of Switzerland, it has lots to offer during the summer months too. Many of its ski resorts are taken over by lovers of the great outdoors during the summer months, making it the perfect spot for couples who'd prefer to hike, mountain bike or go hillwalking rather than sit by a pool on their honeymoon.

Bordered by France, Germany, Italy and Austria it's also a great base for exploring other parts of the continent, either by car or by train.

All in all, it's definitely somewhere to consider if you're planning your honeymoon.
