Exact date Ryanair are set to make huge boarding pass change

The change is expected to come into effect later this year.

It was announced by the airline in October that their passes would be moving to be 100% paperless, with the change expected to come into effect from May.

It's now been confirmed that they will make the change when they begin their winter schedule on November 3, 2025.

From this date, passengers will no longer download and print a physical paper boarding passes and will move to digital passes, which are currently used by 80% of the airline's passengers.

The digital boarding passes are generated in the Ryanair app during passenger check-in.

In a statement from Ryanair it was revealed that the move means passengers will be reducing their carbon footprint, saving over 300 tonnes in paper waste annually.

Additionally, those who are also ‘lead passengers’ when it comes to booking can download all of the boarding passes and share them via WhatsApp and other methods.

As is already the case, if a passenger's smartphone dies or is lost and they have already checked in and downloaded their passes, they will be assisted free of charge at the airport.

CMO of Ryanair, Dara Brady, said: "This move to 100% paperless boarding passes from November 2025 will allow us to deliver an enhanced travel experience for customers, streamlined through the myRyanair app during our less busy Winter schedule."

Despite the change only affecting 20% of passenger who do not already use the method, travel expert Eoghan Corry warned that the change will cause 'havoc'.

"I’m not sure what will happen. There will be absolute havoc when that takes effect.

"There are a lot of people still turning up with boarding passes. Ryanair says it’s a very small proportion, less than 20%, but it’s still on-in-five. So when they say no more printed boarding passes, there is going to be havoc," he said.
