Dublin is a ‘more friendly’ city than Cork, says international survey

Which is more welcoming, Dublin or Cork?

As a Corkonian who has lived in the big smoke for a few years now I could seriously land myself in it for saying what I really think – but an international survey has now come up with a definitive call. Dublin is a more friendly place than Cork, according to a travel website. The capital has been ranked as the sixth most friendly city in the world. Cork is the only other Irish destination to make it into the top 50 but comes in at number 17 on the list.

"For such a small city, Dublin packs a serious punch when it comes to friendliness," says Big 7, which carried out the research. "People here are good-natured, with a good sense of humour. Whether you’re lost or just looking for a chat in a pub, Dubliners will be on hand to help out. Locals even thank the bus driver – the perfect example of classic Irish warmth!

Describing the real capital, the travel site writes;

"Cork is a charming and compact riverside city, where the chances of a stranger saying hi to you on the street are likely."

Yeah, not quite the glowing review Dublin got. For the survey, Big 7 asked its 1.5 million social media users, "where would you find the friendliest city in the world?" Vancouver was named as the world's most friendly city, followed by Kuala Lumpur in second place and Bruges in third.
