People are only realising toasters have a ‘hidden compartment’

Toasters are probably the second most common item in kitchens after the kettle

Yet some people are just realising that their favourite breakfast-making tool is holding a secret within.

If we were to say the words crumb catcher or crumb tray to you, what would you think of?

Maybe you’re one of the few who know exactly what this is, but as it turns out they seem to be few and far between.

Thanks to Australian TikToker Kacie, who is better known for her large following as The Big Clean Co, people are waking up to a new, less crumby reality.

If you look at your toaster, probably near where the plug is, there is a closed compartment secured with a latch or lip that you can pull out like a drawer.

Simply grab the latch and you’ll be able to pull out a tiny drawer that’s been collecting all of your toaster crumbs.

Of course not all toasters are made the same so don’t try and pull the whole thing apart trying to find it but a majority do.

Gone are the days of flipping over the device and sharing it violently over the bin, spending crumbs flying in a flurry of chaos, ultimately resulting in the need for a hoover.

You’ll officially be able to half the time it takes to get your toaster clean and you won’t have to sort the floor afterwards.

When people came across TikTok, there was a mix of delight and sheer rage left in the comments as people realised just how much time they had wasted.

One person said: “Omg I can’t believe this. I always stare at it and get annoyed because of all the crumbs.”

A second added: “There’s a TRAY?!?!?!?”, meanwhile, a third remarked: “Um I didn’t even know a toaster had a toaster tray?”
