Dublin Café says doctors note is required if you want gluten-free food

"From now on, guests who demand gluten-free food are required to produce a doctor’s note"

People are not happy about this.

The number of people choosing to go gluten-free is increasing by the day.

While a many people suffer for an actual intolerance, many others see it as more of a healthy fad and decide to give it a go.

This means that a number of food establishments have had to create more diverse menus for the growing demand in gluten-free food.

One Dublin café is fed up of being asked for gluten free options, and have set a pretty controversial rule to stop it.

In a post on Facebook on Saturday morning the café said that they only providing gluten-free food to those who can prove that they are coeliac, with a doctors note.

The post explained that a girl asked for gluten-free pancakes despite never having heard of coeliac disease.

Many doctors and dietitians have said in recent years that there is little reason to be on a gluten-free diet if you are not coeliac.

Though some people found the post amusing, most people found it offensive and discriminatory.

Facebook users commented on the post to express their unhappiness about the decision, but judging by the café’s responses, they aren’t holding back.

We’re assuming it’s some sort of publicity stunt/bid to be funny, but the offensive replies to customers and claims of discrimination probably won’t do the any favours.

Do think it’s all just a harmless joke? Or do you think it’s unfair to people who suffer from coeliac disease. Let us know on Twitter @Herdotie.
