Planning to propose on Valentine’s Day? You may want to reconsider
Valentine’s Day may be dubbed the most romantic day of the year but it may not be the best day to propose to your other half.
If you’re considering popping the question on February 14th then you may want to change your plans.
The team at Diamonds Factory Ireland spoke exclusively with relationship expert Gemma Nice to highlight why it isn’t a good idea to propose on Valentine’s Day.
Gemma stressed that both people in the relationship should have a serious discussion before proposing.
“They may not be on the same page as their partner, and this will cause tension from both sides. It may even cause one side to reject the proposal. This is why it needs to be really done in private and not at a public event if that is what the proposer is thinking of doing.
“Having a private proposal will give them time to adjust, think about it, and make a fully vulnerable answer.”
When it comes to Valentine’s Day proposals, the relationship expert it is best to avoid proposing on this day.
“There is also a stigma around it that because it’s a day for love, it might not be a day to propose. If there has been conflict, this needs to be discussed and worked through before anything else happens. It might be that you feel pressured because it’s the ‘right’ day to do it.
“The recipient may think it’s cheesy and didn’t want a proposal that way, especially on that particular day.”
Gemma said the main thing to consider is to have that conversation before asking them to marry you.
“Whatever people decide, make sure it’s been discussed first between the two of you and that’s both what you want from the next stage in the relationship.”
