The annual carnival event hosted in the Sambadrome showcases the most spectacular and largest party in the world.
The ornate parades include over 2,500 participants each and costs more than $3 million to produce.
12 of the city’s best samba schools compete against one another with a winner announced later in the week, claiming no prize but the the title.
