This is what the spare red light on your Christmas lights is for

Christmas will be here before we know it

People are slowly starting to embrace the Christmas spirit, even though the holidays are still over a month away.

Christmas decorations are popping up in the city, the shops are full of selection boxes, and our Netflix watch list is now full of cheesy Christmas rom-coms.

We’re not ready to decorate our houses just yet, but we already can’t wait to don the entire place in fairy lights.

Is untangling Christmas lights a mission? Yes, but it is worth it.

It takes what feels like a lifetime, but it is worth it when your house looks like Santa’s Grotto.

We recently discovered a hack that will help make your decorations look even better, and it won’t cost you a penny.

TikTok user @viznelly revealed that the extra red light in your pack of Christmas lights can actually change the lights.

@viznelly **I** didn’t know. 🤩🎄☃️ #christmas #diy #home #homedecor #christmastiktok #christmasdecor #houseoftiktok #cleantok #housework #hometiktok #holiday #tips #hacks #hacksandtips #christmastree #navidad #feliznavidad ♬ It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Bing Crosby

They explained: “Old strings of lights come with an ‘extra’ light with a red tip. When you put it in for another bulb, it makes the whole string of lights blink.”

TikTok users were quick to take to the comments to rave about the clever hack.

“I swear to god this app has taught me more in the last year than I have been alive,” a second said.

“As someone who grew up in the 90’s…I thought everyone knew this. We didn’t always have remote control lights!!” one said.

Another added: “Blinky lights always look so cool.”

This hack is a handy way to save money and to change up your Christmas decorations without spending a fortune.

Now if someone could show me a hack that untangles Christmas lights quickly then I’d be forever grateful.
