It’s rare that we have no words, but this is a whole new low.
Apparently there’s a new obsession to rival the thigh-gap, centred around the woman’s public bone.
The mons pubis is the mound of flesh directly above a woman’s pubic bone, and according to reports, there’s now a new trend in keeping it flat, taut and apparently on show.
Writing in The New York Times, Jennifer Weiner slammed the latest hang-up:
“’This year, the hot new body part is the formerly unnoticed span of flesh between the top of one’s panties and the labia majora, currently displayed on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition by the model Hannah Davis.
‘Great! Another thing to hate about ourselves.”
While the area has previously been a source of design (remember vajazzling?) the trend has seen a spike in cosmetic procedures available to the ‘maintenance’ of the region.
Monsplasty, also known as a Pubic Lift, is the latest surgery that will reduce and tighten the area, now more commonly exposed with the range of waxing styles.
According to the Mail Online, the treatment can last up to six weeks, requires corrective underwear on top of the procedure and will cost from £1500, with clinics in London seeing a rise in clients ahead of holiday season in the coming months.
While we’re all for every woman feeling body confident, we think it’s pretty safe to say this is a step too far.
We’ll settle for the spanx thanks.
