Add us as a preferred source on Google »Like Bridget Jones, we've tried to quit smoking many, many times, but this new information from the Central Statistics Office may give us the push to quit completely.
A new report by the CSO has revealed how much money you could save by sticking to your New Year's resolution and quit smoking for good.
If you're smoking a packet of cigarettes a day then you could save a whopping €575.36 per month.
That adds up to an extra €6,700 in your bank account at the end of the year.
Even if you're not smoking daily, and are prone to buying a packet on a night out, you could save a few hundred quid by the end of the year if you manage to quit.
The HSE has shared some helpful advice with those who are hoping to quit smoking this year.
The team explained that you are five times more likely to quit for good if you do all of these:
If you're plannning on quitting then keeping a smoking diary for two weeks is a great place to start. This will help you understand your smoking pattern and spot your triggers.
You should also plan how you’ll stop smoking - make a Quit plan and set a quit date that you can stick to.
Contact the HSE's quit smoking helpline on 1800 201 203.
The HSE also recommends asking about how nicotine replacement therapy (such as patches or gum) or prescription treatments might help you. You can also take medication to help quit smoking.
