IKEA launch ‘plant balls’ a climate-friendly alternative to their infamous meatballs

Plant balls are coming.

IKEA are aiming to make a sustainable splash in the coming months and their infamous meatballs are first up to get an overhaul. IKEA are hoping to make sustainable living and eating more accessible for its customers and with that in mind 'Plant Balls' are coming to stores across the UK and Ireland from August 3rd. The plant balls are made using plant-based ingredients and meat lovers are being promised they can expect the same delicious taste and texture of the iconic dish, with just 4% of the climate footprint. Essentially these bad boys are promising to taste like meat, look like meat but they'll be suitable for all tastes including meat lovers, flexitarians, vegetarians and vegans alike. Ingredients include yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion and apple. From August 3rd, as well as in IKEA stores across Ireland, the plant balls will also be available to purchase in Swedish food markets. It's all part of the companies plan to be climate positive by 2030. Hege Sæbjørnsen, Country Sustainability Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland, says:

With the new plant ball we can now offer meat lovers a great tasting, more sustainable alternative – without compromising on the IKEA meatball experience that is loved by so many.”

The plant balls will be available for €1.75 from IKEA bistros and €3.25 from Swedish food markets on August 3rd.
