These products don’t cause women any harm, but can contain strong fragrances and renowned dermatologist, Dr. Adel says they are essentially a gimmick.
While using perfumed body washes is absolutely fine for everywhere else, she gives a breakdown of her insights and alternatives that are safe and effective for women's hygiene.
Dr. Aamna Adel passionately addressed a widespread issue: "You know what I actually think is really crazy; no one has ever taught women or told women how they should be cleaning down below."
This statement highlights the lack of education on feminine hygiene, leading many women to rely on commercial products - that are often expensive and highly perfumed - that may not be necessary.
Dr. Adel criticised the marketing strategies of these products, stating: "Anything which is a feminine hygiene product is absolute BS, it is garbage, it is a marketing scam."
She further questioned the need for the huge variety of products: “Why have we got a tissue foam? No need to rinse? What is this? We’ve got wipes, we’ve got soothing washers, sensitive washes, daily washes.”
Dr. Adel's message is clear: “You do not need these all of these products.”
While Dr. Adel advises against the use of specialised feminine hygiene products, maintaining cleanliness is still of the utmost importance.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the most effective way to maintain hygiene is by using warm water and a mild, unscented soap.
Avoid soaps with strong fragrances and chemicals that can disrupt the natural pH balance and cause a whole host of other issues.
