There has been national outcry this week after it was reported that a 101-year-old woman was left on a hospital trolley for 26 hours.
A report in The Irish Times this week highlighted the fact that the elderly woman was left waiting for a bed for more than 24 hours after arriving at the hospital on Monday afternoon.
In a statement today, Tallaght Hospital stated that although they do not comment on individual cases it is “aware of a delay that existed in allocating a ward bed to an elderly patient” and conveyed their regret for “any inconvenience experienced” by “the patient and their family”.
Speaking on News at One on RTÉ today, Dr. James Gray described the situation as a form of torture, while Age Action was also appalled at the news.
“Keeping a 101-year-old woman on a trolley in an emergency ward for 26 hours is an absolute horror story,” said Justin Moran from the organization.
