Family Matters: Nearly Four Out of Ten Buggies Tested Have High Levels of Bacteria

Think your buggy is spotless? Think again! A new test study by cleaning product manufacturer Dettol has revealed that the average buggy can have very high traces of bacteria on them.

Nearly four out of ten buggies tested by the company showed astonishingly high levels of bacteria on the seats or handles with 90% of them being regarded as “unclean.”

And what’s causing this germ build up?

According to the buggy testers, the amount of germs on Irish buggies may be down to the fact that only half of mums (52%) wipe down or clean their child’s buggy when it looks dirty or something spills on it.

A third of mums believed that a toilet is in fact cleaner than their child’s buggy with another third saying that their buggy is a germ magnet.

This interesting new research was announced today by Dettol at the launch of the Barnardos Buggy Push which is sponsored by the company.

The Barnardos Buggy Push is a 5km challenge for people with babies and young children and is suitable for fun runners and walkers as well as more serious athletes who want a challenge by running while pushing their baby in their buggy. The event will take place on September 1st in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
