Eerie.

There’s a new Irish horror film hitting our screens, and with an array of famous faces, we’re truly going to be hiding between out hands while watching.

The trailer for Unwelcome sees Colm Meaney starring alongside Derry Girls alum Jamie Lee O’Donnell and The Young Offenders’ Chris Walley.

The story centres around Maya, played by Game of Thrones star Hannah John-Kamen, and her partner Jamie, played by Douglas Booth, as they move from London to rural Ireland after inheriting their dream home.

As they are expecting their first child, raising a family in the Irish countryside is the dream until their life is flipped upside down.

Of course, like any of these terrifying films, there’s a massive catch. Lurking in their garden are some goblins known as the red caps who need a blood sacrifice each night from the homeowners.

Remembering to leave raw meat out each night, all is good until one night when they forget and all hell breaks loose.

Other than the horrors that unfold, the Irish locals are less than impressed that two British people are living int the home, with the Irish locals telling them exactly how they feel.

And we even get a glimpse of Jamie Lee and Chris rocking Dublin accents, which is a big change compared to what we’re used to with them.

Unwelcome has been created by Jon Wright from the Irish folklore tales he heard growing up, telling Empire Magazine: “My grandfather, who was an Irish farmer, believed in fairies. He used to say that he’d tried to build a wall at the foot of his garden but every morning when he got up , it had been knocked down.

“He believed it was being built on fairy land so he couldn’t have it there.”

Unwelcome is set to be released on 23 January 2023.
