I would personally like to thank whoever cast Pedro Pascal in Materialists
We have been starved of decent rom-coms for far too long, but Hollywood has finally answered our (my) prayers.
If you’re anything like me, then you grew up watching How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, The Devil Wears Prada, and 13 Going on 30.
Rom-coms are the ultimate source of comfort, joy, and are just far easier to watch than many Oscar-worthy movies.
Anyone But You gave the genre a new lease of life when it was released in 2023, but so few rom-coms have been released since then.
Luckily, Celine Song is here to save the day with her new movie.
The director has put together our dream rom-com cast- Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Dakota Johnson for her new movie Materialists.
The film follows matchmaker Lucy (Dakota Johnson) as she becomes involved in a love triangle.
The synopsis reads:
‘Lucy’s expertise in matchmaking is highly sought after by those willing to pay a premium for her services, including the elites of New York City. At one of her client’s weddings, she meets Randy, a millionaire who happens to be one of the groom’s best men.
‘At the same wedding, she also encounters John, her waiter/struggling actor ex, whom she dumped but couldn’t move on from. The three will eventually become entangled in a toxic love triangle that could jeopardize Lucy’s career and her clients.’
Viewers have been raving about the trailer, with many pointing out how long it has been since a decent rom-com was released in cinemas.
One fan wrote: “Materialists is the romcom that I have been waiting for, and it has Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, thank you so much Celine Song for giving one more reason to stay alive.”
Another said: “Loved Past Lives, so super excited to see this film.”
Materialists is set for release in Ireland on August 15th.
