The trailer for The Deceived has dropped, the new thriller starring Paul Mescal

Anna Daly

Deceived

Okay, it’s a teaser trailer but, look, we’ll take what we can get.

The trailer just dropped yesterday and, even from just the one-minute length, we can tell this is going to be a good one. The show, The Deceived, is a thriller and was created by Derry Girls-genius Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer.

The show was filmed in Belfast and is due to be released later this year.

It’s been described as “a compelling, sinister narrative of lust, manipulation and betrayal.” Sounds right up our street.

It follows Ophelia, played by Emily Reid (Belgravia), a college student who falls in love with her attractive but married college lecturer, Dr Michael Callaghan, played by Emmet J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders).

Ophelia becomes wrapped up in a terrifying world where she can’t even trust her own mind.

After a fire breaks out at Michael’s house, his wife is supposedly killed from it. However, Ophelia starts to believe that things may not be as they seem and that Roisin might be alive after all. A pregnant Ophelia has to figure out what is actually going on and whether or not she’s losing her mind, all with the help of friend and local builder Sean, played by Paul Mescal (Normal People).

The show is a four-part series and also stars Catherine Walker (Resistance), Eleanor Methven (Derry Girls), Louisa Harland (Derry Girls) and Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls).
