There’s going to be a massive change to Riverdale when it returns for season five

There’s going to be a massive change to Riverdale when it returns for season five.

The CW series was one of the shows that shut down production due to the Covid-19 pandemic, bringing season four to an early close.

The drama is set to be back for a fifth season later this year (fingers crossed), with Archie et al. facing a jump in time.

According to TVLine, the fast-forward was originally intended for the end of season four.

And while the exact details are being worked out by the writers, it looks like it may be moving several years into the future – past when the gang would be at university.

“We’ve been talking and planning on doing a time jump. And of course, usually time jumps happen in between seasons, because there’s a tease at the very end,” the series’ executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told the publication.

He noted that there were three episodes left in season four – including their high school prom and graduation. And rather than skipping past those milestones, they are currently looking at having the time-jump take place a few episodes into the series.

“It felt like maybe what we’ll do is start with the last three episodes [of season four]. So what we’re doing is picking up right where we left off for the first three episodes, and then doing a time jump… after those three episodes,” he continued.

  • Season four of Riverdale is available to watch on Netflix in Ireland.
