This Netflix show is a must-watch for February
Netflix has produced some of our favourite shows of all time from You and the Night Agent to Nobody Wants This.
The streaming service never disappoints with its original content and its latest release is no different.
Apple Cider Vinegar lands on Netflix this Thursday and it is one of the best series I’ve watched.
The limited series follows the story of Australian influencer Belle Gibson who lies about having cancer.
Netflix confirmed it isn’t a biopic but is a work of fiction based on a “true-ish story based on a lie.”
I’d never heard of the story of Belle Gibson before tuning into the series and couldn’t wrap my head around it.
I flew through the six episodes in one sitting because I was completely gripped by the story unfolding on screen.
Apple Cider Vinegar is an enthralling but uncomfortable watch because it highlights how far people will go for fame.
The series also highlights how damaging social media can be and the harmful pedestals we put influencers on.
What really stuck with me was how everyone believed her and followed her advice with some even ignoring their doctors.
Not only did Belle Gibson lie about having multiple cancers, but she also lied to people about ‘curing’ it with a healthy lifestyle.
A lie far too many people believed.
What is Apple Cider Vinegar about?
‘The life of wellness guru Belle Gibson, who had a large social media following, where she pretended to be suffering from cancer but keeping the disease under control using self-care therapies. She confessed that none of it was true.’
The series stars Kaitlyn Dever, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Aisha Dee.
The story of Belle Gibson’s scandal is told in the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by Australian journalists Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.
Apple Cider Vinegar lands on Netflix on February 6th.
