Sister Act: The Musical is coming to Dublin in 2020

Paul Moore

Joyful, joyful.

God bless Harvey Keitel.

If he wasn’t such an intimidating and troublesome gangster in Sister Act, Deloris Van Cartier may never have found her true calling to become a nun. Well, an interim nun.

Oh happy day, indeed.

Well, with news that Whoopi Goldberg will be returning to play Sister Mary Clarence in a new Sister Act musical in London’s West End, Ticketmaster have confirmed that the production will land in Dublin too.

Hallelujah!

Based on the iconic movie, the smash-hit musical Sister Act is coming to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from 29 September to 4 October 202o. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 22 November.

At present, it’s not certain if Goldberg and Jennifer Saunders will be reprising their roles for the Dublin-based production of the show, but we’re certain that fans of the Sister Act films will definitely want to head along anyway.

The musical has been billed as a “sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music”, telling “the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder”.

All we ask is that they play ‘Joyful, joyful’ in full because it is – and will always be – an absolute banger.

We wonder if The Pope will fancy coming to this show too?
