A Riverdale actor has issued an apology for “immature and offensive” tweets he shared years ago.

Charles Melton posted the body-shaming tweets in 2012, writing: “If you’re fat, don’t look in the mirror” and “fat chicks need to understand that wearing yoga pants is a privilege, not a right.”

The tweets resurfaced recently when fans of the show looked back in Melton’s page and began resharing them.

Melton, who plays Reggie in Riverdale, was then forced to put his Twitter account on private.

He has since issued an apology for the tweets, saying:

“I’m truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologize to anyone I hurt.

“What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behavior.”

Melton also said that he is “… striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable.”

The actor replaced Ross Butler in Riverdale after he left the show before the beginning of season two.
