Fans of the film expressed disappointment over McAdams’ absence
Rachel McAdams has revealed the reason she chose not to be a part of the ‘Mean Girls’ reunion.
Last month, the original cast of the film – Lindsay Lohan, Amanada Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert – reclaimed their roles to star in a Walmart advert for Black Friday.
However, the ‘Mean Girls’ gang was down a member as McAdams – who starred as Regina George in the 2004 hit film – was absent from the advert.
In an interview with Variety, the ‘Notebook’ actress explained why she didn’t make the small-screen reunion.
“I don’t know; I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a commercial if I’m being totally honest,” she told the outlet.
“A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag.”
McAdams also revealed that she wasn’t unaware that her former co-stars would be having a get-together.
“Also…I didn’t know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later.”
However, the possibility of the ‘Game Night’ actress reprising her role as Regina George isn’t totally off the table as she is open to making a cameo in ‘Mean Girls: The Movie Musical’.
“Tina [Fey] and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end.
“I was really down for whatever she wanted to do. I think the direction it went in will be fantastic and I cannot wait to see it.”
Mean Girls: The Movie Musical will hit Irish cinemas on January 19th, 2024.
