Netflix’s Killer Ratings is the true crime doc you won’t be able to believe

Jade Hayden

Absolute madness.

Over the past few weeks, the true crime brigade appears to have slowed every so slightly as every single person in the world turns their attention to a reality show about people riding in Majorca.

And fair enough too, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still enjoy stressful, thrilling, and difficult-to-believe content that doesn’t involve professional ballroom dancers or ring girls.

Killer Ratings is that exact piece of content, so if you’ve been looking for something to distract yourself from all of the beautiful people in bikinis, look no further.

The series follows the scandal surrounding a Brazilian politician and television presenter, Wallace Souza, who is accused of ordering a number of people to be killed.

Souza, however, hasn’t allegedly ordered these hits simply because he wants these people dead, but so he can improve the ratings on his already immensely popular TV show, Canal Livre.

Souza’s show is a bit of a mix between Jeremy Kyle, Crime Watch, The Den, and any other vaguely daytime TV show you might have seen growing up.

The only difference is there’s a weirdly acute focus on violence, death, and gore.

The more popular Canal Livre gets, the more convinced certain people become that Souza is the one orchestrating the murders he’s reporting on.

Killer Ratings takes viewers through the show’s history, some of its most gruesome stories, and presents a case against Souza that will leave audiences wondering how something as insane as this actually happened – and whether it really did.

The documentary is a seven part series, and like most true crime shows that run past four episodes, it’s far too long.

However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be absolutely glued to your TV, tablet, or phone as you dive deep into the world of corrupt Brazilian politicians, macabre entertainment, and TV hosts that are desperate to make sure that everybody in the country knows their name.

You’ll enjoy it, but you won’t be able to believe it.

Killer Ratings is streaming on Netflix now.
