Lads, Dermot Bannon took part on BLIND DATE on ITV in 1994

Brilliant.

So, it turns out Dermot Bannon didn’t make his TV debut on Room to Improve.

Nope, the architecture was looking for love way back in 1994, when he appeared on Blind Date.

He was studying towards his career in England at the time as he sat alongside two other lads hoping to meet a wonderful lady.

Footage of the episode aired on The Late Late Show not too long ago, but Ray D’Arcy decided to ask him about it again on his RTÉ Radio One show yesterday.

“I was in college in England and they had a roadshow where they went around all the students unions and universities and they held auditions and we all thought it would be a bit of craic to go for it so I went in with a few of the Irish lads who were over there with me and when I came out from the audition they were gone,” he told Ray.

And when asked if his wife Louise has a problem with it, Dermot said: “No, she’s not, she’s grand.  Look, it’s one of those things.

“I don’t regret many things in my life.  I don’t even regret it.  But I suppose working in what I do I’m always trying to be taken seriously.  I’m more comfortable with it now than maybe 10 years ago.”

Lads, we just love this way too much.
