It comes in a never-seen-before clip.
Viewers of Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farewell were treated to a huge surprise as one of the show’s longest-running mysteries was addressed.
The official finale of the series aired on Christmas Day, with fans getting the satisfaction of a lot of loose ends being tied up.
One piece of closure they failed to receive, however, was the truth behind what happened on Bryn and Jason’s fishing trip back in the day.
While last night’s follow up to the finale revealed lots of behind-the-scenes footage from the seventeen years of making the show, it was a snap bit of footage airing over the end credits that sent fans into a frenzy.
Several seconds of shaky, hand-held camcorder-style footage meant to be from decades before showed Bryn and Jason in retro clothing and looking much younger on their fateful fishing trip.

In keeping with the top secret element of the story that has kept it a mystery for years, the home video footage cut off before fans were given the chance to find out what happened next.
Many fans on X reacted to the sneaky surprise, with one writing: “OMG! The fishing trip! Nahh you can’t end like that with the fishing trip.”
Another posted: “I AM HOWLING at the end of Gavin and Stacey a fond farewell… a clip of THE FISHING TRIP!”

“Teasing the fishing trip they had the option to do the funniest thing and they did I’m glad we didn’t find out what happened tbh,” wrote another.
Viewers had been waiting for five years to learn the fate of the BBC sitcom’s beloved characters and see if Smithy had accepted Nessa’s proposal.
The final episode was hailed ‘perfect’ by many who watched.
