The first action packed trailer for Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider is here

Lara Croft is back.

We can’t wait for this.

The first trailer for Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft film is here – and we’re so excited.

The Oscar winner is taking over the role, previously played by Angelina Jolie for two films 2001 and 2003.

The new Tomb Raider blockbuster, based on the 2013 video game, starts with Croft living a seemingly normal life in London.

But after finding a message from her father, who seemingly disappeared seven years beforehand, Lara is determined to forge her own path – and solve his disappearance.

The official synopsis for the film reads:

“Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.

“But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous.

“Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.

“If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.”

The reboot, due to hit cinemas on March 16, has previously been described a prequel of sorts, and “more of an origin story”.

Alicia told UpRoxx:

“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013.

“That is more of an origin story.

“You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way.

“So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that”ll stand on its own two legs.”
