Final episode of Neighbours to air on Irish TV in August

End of an era.

The final episode of Neighbours ever will be airing in Ireland on RTE Two this August.

The popular Australian TV series is sadly coming to an end after 37 years on our screens after UK TV station Channel 5 revealed in February that it was set to stop airing the soap.

Channel 5 decided to stop funding the soap opera, and the shows’ producers were unable to find another channel to fund it. As the soap opera has been mostly produced for the UK market, bosses were left with no choice but to draw it to a close this summer.

The final episode is set to air on 1 August, and it will be on Irish screens the same month, on August 3rd.

The soap first aired on RTE on January 2nd 2001 and the second last episode will be airing on Tuesday, 2 August with the final 30-minute episode airing on Wednesday, 3 August.

After months of speculation, the soap has revealed that two of the show’s biggest stars – Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan – will be back to Ramsay Street for one last hurrah.

Kylie got her start in show business on Neighbours as she played Charlene Robinson for two years, while Donovan played her partner Scott for three.

In one of the biggest moments in the soap’s history, the characters tied the knot during a 1987 episode.

In a tweet, the official Neighbours account wrote: “Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them.

“We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale. It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers.”
