It’s time to say farewell to Downton Abbey as they released the first trailer for the upcoming film.
The third film has reportedly been in the works since March 2024.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s.
As the beloved cast of characters navigates how to lead Downton Abbey into the future, they must embrace change and welcome a new chapter.
Fans expressed on social media how heartbroken they are to say farewell.
One person commented:
"you’re not gonna make me cry with a trailer right"
Another: "I’m already shedding tears"
"Noooo I never want to say goodbye", another wrote.
Focus Features and Universal Pictures International confirmed the final movie will be released in cinemas globally on September 12th.
Downton creator and Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes wrote the third and final film in the Downton franchise.
BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning Gareth Neame, Fellowes, and BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge produced the film.
Simon Curtis returns to direct after helming 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Actors including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, and Robert James-Collier will star in the third film.
Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West return for the final film.
The film will feature some new additions, including Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale will be released in Irish cinemas on September 12th.
