The third Downton Abbey movie will be released sooner than expected

A third Downton Abbey movie is set for release later this year.

The beloved period drama is set to return to the big screen this autumn.

Focus Features and Universal Pictures International confirmed the final movie will be released in cinemas globally on September 12th.

The third and final film in the Downton franchise is written by Downton creator and Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes.

The film will be titled Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.

It will be produced by BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning Gareth Neame, Fellowes, and BAFTA and Emmy Award- winning Liz Trubridge.

Simon Curtis returns to direct after helming 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era.

Fans will be thrilled to see most of the original cast return for the final movie.

Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, and Robert James-Collier will star in the third film.

Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West return for the final film.

New additions include Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.

The plot for the final film will be kept underwraps but there’s no doubt it will be as successful as the first two films.

We cannot wait to watch the third Downton Abbey movie.
