Ellen Pompeo says it’s time for Grey’s Anatomy to end

The star has been calling for the show's cancellation for a while now.

Ellen Pompeo has said she is ready for Grey's Anatomy to end and has been trying to convince everyone around her to finish the series. The much-loved show is currently on its 18th season and has been running for almost two decades - with its first episode premiering back in 2005. Speaking to Insider, Ellen revealed that her character, Dr. Meredith Grey, could be hanging up her scrubs very soon. "I've been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end." She said. "​I feel like I'm the super naive one who keeps saying, 'But what's the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?' "And everyone's like, 'Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'" Despite being one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, earning an estimated $20 million per year, this is not the first time the 52-year-old has spoken out about wanting to end the show that shot her to fame. Back in February, on CBS Morning Sunday, she expressed her initial hesitancy about going ahead with season 18 and hinted that it might be the hit drama's last. "We honestly have not decided. We're really trying to figure it out right now,” she said at the time. “It's... what story do we tell? To end a show this iconic, you know, how do we do it? "I just want to make sure we do this character and this show and the fans - I want to make sure we do it right.” In the meantime, while she waits for everyone to agree with her, Ellen has been focusing on using her platform on-and-off screen to highlight the stories of marginalised groups. One of the ways in which she does this is through her podcast, Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo. So even though Meredith may be leaving our screens, we certainly haven't seen the last of Ellen.
