Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, one of 2024’s best blockbuster movies to date, is now available to stream via Disney+.
Released in cinemas only a few weeks ago, the film is the 10th in the Planet of the Apes franchise and a standalone sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
The movie is set several generations later at a time in which apes are the dominant species and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows.
“As a new tyrannical ape leader (Kevin Durand, Abigail) builds his empire, one young ape (Owen Teague, Bloodline) undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike,” the plot synopsis reads.
Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy), Kingdom also features amongst its cast Freya Allan (The Witcher), Peter Macon (The Orville) and William H. Macy (Fargo).
Upon release, the film was a success – grossing nearly $400 million at the box-office and earning an 80% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In particular, its stunning motion-capture effects and performances, its lush visuals and its story’s real-world parallels were singled out for praise.
