Zara King will travel to one of Turkey’s most popular clinics.

A poignant documentary exploring the world of medical tourism in Turkey will air tonight on Virgin Media One and on the Virgin Media Player.

‘To Die For: Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey’ will see journalist, Zara King, travel to the country to investigate why Irish citizens are opting to go under the knife in Turkey every year, how it works, and finding out who is held responsible if it all goes wrong.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, had cited some harrowing figures that go hand-in-hand with this worrying trend.

Since 2020, his department has recorded 12 very serious cases, including nine Irish deaths abroad and three people with medical complications that arose as a result of procedures, mainly bariatric (weight loss-related medical surgery) and dental surgery.

Every year, thousands of Irish citizens travel to Turkey to have cosmetic work done, and sadly, some never make it back home.

Zara will visit one of Turkey’s most popular clinics to investigate the number of people having medical and cosmetic procedures done.

In this documentary, the journalist will also meet with people whose lives have been forever changed by ‘botched’ surgeries, from ‘Turkey teeth’ to tummy tucks.

‘Turkey teeth’ has become a term that refers to those who have chosen to fly to Turkey to have dental work done.

To Die For: Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey’ airs tonight at 10:00 pm on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Player.
