Is Clarkson’s Farm returning for a fourth season?
Amazon Prime Video is in talks to renew Clarkson’s Farm for a fourth season, according to reports.
In January of this year, Variety said Amazon was likely to part ways with Clarkson after he wrote a controversial column about Meghan Markle in The Sun in which he wrote that he hated her on a “cellular level”.
Clarkson and The Sun subsequently apologised while the column – which led to the most complaints ever to the UK’s press regulator – was removed from online.
That said, the streamer never officially commented on Variety’s claims or said if the show would continue past season three.
The third batch of episodes for Clarkson’s Farm is due for a 2024 premiere and is currently being made by production outfit Expectation.
Deadline is now reporting that Amazon is “preparing to renew” the show, with multiple sources saying “relations had improved and Amazon is in active talks with Clarkson over Season 4 of the farming documentary series, which is easily its best-performing UK original”.
The outlet added: “A deal is not finalised and there could yet be another plot twist, but those familiar with the matter said discussions have been positive and there is ambition on both sides to bring the show back.”
Amazon Prime Video has not commented on Deadline’s report.
A season four renewal would continue to see cameras roll at the Costwolds farm next year.
However, while the Clarkson’s Farm talks are reportedly progressing, two sources told Deadline that there was a “bump in the road” after comments made by Amazon executives at the Edinburgh TV Festival last month.
Amazon’s UK originals head Dean Grabiner and unscripted chief Fozia Khan stated that the series was “bigger” than Clarkson, leading to speculation that they were thinking about replacing the host.
The former Top Gear host is said to have been unhappy about the remarks. Deadline reports that Clarkson indicated that he was prepared to announce the fourth season, telling his Twitter followers: “Stand by for some fantastic news from Clarkson’s Farm.”
Sources also told Deadline that Clarkson was talked down and that, 24 hours following his news tease, he announced the arrival of a “huge amount of piglets.”
Clarkson did not respond to a request for comment from Deadline.
