A season four renewal would continue to see cameras roll at the Costwolds farm next year.
However, while the Clarkson's Farm talks are reportedly progressing, two sources told Deadline that there was a "bump in the road" after comments made by Amazon executives at the Edinburgh TV Festival last month.
Amazon’s UK originals head Dean Grabiner and unscripted chief Fozia Khan stated that the series was “bigger” than Clarkson, leading to speculation that they were thinking about replacing the host.
The former Top Gear host is said to have been unhappy about the remarks. Deadline reports that Clarkson indicated that he was prepared to announce the fourth season, telling his Twitter followers: “Stand by for some fantastic news from Clarkson's Farm.”
Sources also told Deadline that Clarkson was talked down and that, 24 hours following his news tease, he announced the arrival of a "huge amount of piglets."
Clarkson did not respond to a request for comment from Deadline.
