America Ferrera says Ugly Betty cast would make a reboot 'in a heartbeat'

Calling all Ugly Betty fans! There’s hope!

The actress behind the titular character of Betty, America Ferrera, has said that she would be “thrilled” to dust off her multicoloured poncho and play the character again.

Okay, maybe not in those words but she would be more than happy to reprise her role of Betty Suarez and believes that the rest of the cast would be down too.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the Barbie star said: “I think there has been like a deep desire there for a long time because our Ugly Betty family is so close, and so we love each other so much.

“I think we’d all come back in a heartbeat. You know, I don’t know! It takes a lot of work to get a thing off the ground. Maybe we’ll figure it out.”

She added: “Betty is my heart, I would be thrilled [to play her again.]”

It’s clear that the cast still share a lot of love for each other as just last week executive producer Salma Hayek shared a post thanking fans for their continued love for the show and praising America’s talents.

“I am so excited that a new generation is discovering Ugly Betty,” she penned. “It was groundbreaking at its time and has remained relevant throughout all these years.

“America, I’m so proud of all your accomplishments; we couldn’t have done it without such a great cast.”

Last November, America and her former co-stars, Michael Urie, and Vanessa Williams, got together and shared an Instagram picture of “Betty and Marc and Wilhelmina” having dinner.

Williams had previously explained to Entertainment Weekly in 2021 that a reboot might not be in the cards, however, following the death of Silvio Horta the previous year by suicide, leaving ownership of the show’s rights up in the air.
