The ultimate Spice Girl tune Wannabe was released 19 years ago today, topping the charts and marking the start of a massive career for the biggest girl band in pop history.
The track was released as the group’s debut single in July 1996, claiming the number one spot in the UK charts for seven weeks, and later bagging the girls a platinum certification by the British Phonographic Industry.
Just six months later, Geri, Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and Victoria released their single in the US – top the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks.
