Strictly’s Amy Dowden praised for returning to show amid cancer treatment

Viewers praised the Welsh dancer for appearing on the show.

Amy joined presenter Claudia Winkleman and her fellow dancers in the studio and looked as beautiful as ever.

The dancer was diagnosed with breast cancer this May, but she is already halfway through her treatment.

Viewers praised the dancer for being so brave, and for appearing on the show without her wig. One viewer wrote, "Amy Dowden choosing not to wear a wig on Strictly tonight has just shown every little girl going through chemo that bald is beautiful. What a role model."

Another said, "Such an inspiring, beautiful, and brave woman."

"My mum is fighting her second battle of breast cancer and seeing Amy on tv with no wig on has made her heart so full. Thank you for being a role model Amy to all cancer fighters no matter their age," another said.

Amy said she decided to "embrace the bald" for her Strictly return. The dancer thanked her supporters for being so kind to her following her appearance on the show.

She told them that her Strictly family helped her appear on the show without her wig.

Amy wrote, "There are no words to describe the pure joy and happiness I felt last night being back with my Strictly family.

"It is their love and support that gave me the courage to decide last minute to step out and brave the bald.

"It’s messages like the above which is why I use my platform to raise awareness and hopefully give others confidence #baldisbeautful."

The dancer said it wasn't an easy thing for her to do, but she felt liberated after her appearance.

"Not saying it was easy and I still miss my long hair dearly but gosh did it feel liberating.

"It’s breast cancer awareness month which gave me that extra push to do it."

The Welsh dancer added, "Can’t wait to back there with the strictly family again soon."
