Barry Keoghan said his mum “always had a smile on her face”.

Irish actor Barry Keoghan has opened up about his late mother. The Banshees of Inisherin actor lost his mother when he was just 12 years old, but tried to reach her through a medium.

The actor explained that he picked a number from a book and they managed to guess it correctly. He chose the number 72 which was his mother’s birth year. Keoghan said he was blown away when they guessed the number.

“That’s not on the Internet or anything. I [was] like, “Wowwwwww!” he told Esquire.

Keoghan reflected on his relationship with his mother and said he has so many lovely memories of her.

Barry’s brother Eric used to dance by her hospital bed to A Little Less Conversation by Elvis, he revealed.

“We’d be by her bedside. She was always chirpy and always making sure we were good,” he shared.

Barry added, “Always a smile on her face.”

Barry sadly lost his mother when he was only 12 years old. She had suffered from drug addiction throughout her life and passed away when she was just 30.

Barry and his brother Eric were in and out of multiple foster homes until his grandmother and aunt took them in.

Speaking about his childhood, the actor said: “You know what, I’m proud of it. I’m not going to say what happened was the right thing, but it’s certainly given me a lot of ammunition.”

Keoghan previously said he prays to his mother before every audition and believes she is with him through every step of this journey.
