Spencer Matthews says he’s no longer drinks in secrecy

Spencer Matthews has opened up about his sobriety

He stressed that he isn't "in recovery," but he isn't frightened of alcohol anymore.

Matthews explained:

"I don't think I'm in recovery. To be honest, if I felt like having a drink, I would have a drink.. It doesn't frighten me anymore.

He added, "I don't need to drink in secrecy. I don't need to hide it."

The businessman discussed his issues with alcohol in the new RTÉ show Hooked.

He said his wife, Vogue Williams, does not mind if he has a drink.

"If I fancy a glass of wine with my wife, I'll have one. She wouldn't care. We've gone through it all and come out the other side, and it feels good to have that element of control, something that I've come across again and again.

He added, "I was definitely proud of my own journey."

Matthews reflected on the lowest point of his sobriety journey in the show.

He explained that a counsellor helped him get sober the first time because he didn't shame him.

Matthews has often been praised for being so honest about his relationship with alcohol.

He launched a non-alcoholic brand called CleanCo in 2019.
