Sam Smith has called out an Instagram account which has been set up to post homophobic content directed at the singer and the LGBT community.

The singer decided to highlight the issue facing gay people by screengrabbing the offensive comments, username and profile of an Instagram account called ‘GaySamSmith’ whose username read: ‘We Hate F****T Smith’.
Despite the hateful content, Sam insists that the ignorance no longer offends him, as he has learnt how to deal with homophobia.
Posting a snap of the Instagram account, Sam captioned the picture:
“This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too tick skinned when it comes to this kind of shit. BUT I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobia is still SO PRESENT in our society!”
The singer has previously opened up about dealing with both verbal and physical homophobic abuse, saying he found himself more uncomfortable for the people around him than by the words themselves:
“I was just embarrassed that my dad had to see that, because I could only imagine how you feel as a parent.
“You just want to kill them. I was always embarrassed for the people around me. It actually never deeply affected me, you know?”
The Latch singer also suffered physical attacks for his sexuality, saying he became a target for wearing make-up. Having just moved to London, Smith said he was attacked while walking down the road:
“I got punched in my neck, just out of nowhere. It wasn’t the easiest.”
