RTÉ presenter Maura Derrane has spoken out about the somewhat traumatic birth of her baby boy Cal.
The Today host, who welcomed her first son with husband John Deasy back in May, has revealed that she got quite the scare six weeks before her due date.
Maura was already at the hospital for observation, after doctors discovered she had placenta praevia, when she started bleeding heavily.
She told 2FM: “I was standing in a corridor talking to my sister Rita on the phone when the next thing I just felt this whoosh… I knew I had to keep calm so I walked into the room and I pressed the emergency bell”.
Doctors were forced to perform an emergency caesarean section and thankfully, little Cal was delivered safe and well. “The minute they took the baby out of me, he cried and he was perfect, thank God,” explained Maura.
