Following major backlash, 42-year-old Anna Camp has spoken out to defend her relationship with 24-year-old Jade Whipkey.

The Pitch Perfect actress debuted their relationship on the red carpet last week, a month after confirming it.

PinkNews posted their red carpet debut on Instagram, with Camp coming under fire since.

One person commented:

"I’m in my mid-30s, and I can’t imagine having the necessary common ground to start a relationship with a 20-year-old. What could they possibly have in common?"

Another:

"Regardless of celebrity or gender: if a 42-year-old is with a 24-year-old, it's about power or control, even on a subconscious level."

A third said:

"I don’t know these two but I think too often we overlook age gaps in queer relationships. I even think 30 and 22 is a poor match.

Anna Camp surprisingly joined the comment section to defend herself

"I’ve dated men exactly my age, and Jade is FAR more mature than any of them," she said.

"We have more in common than anyone else I’ve ever dated, and can literally talk about anything and everything,

"Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I’m wishing everyone well,

"Especially this Pride month."

Many commenters came to the You star's defence as well.
