Nicola Coughlan has opened up about her career struggles
Irish actress Nicola Coughlan has opened up about the struggles she faced before becoming a household name.
We know her best for her roles in Bridgerton and Derry Girls, but the Irish actress said things were incredibly tough for her before she landed her role as Clare.
Nicola admitted she even considered quitting acting before she was cast in Derry Girls.
She said she even considered moving home to Galway.
“There were definitely lots of moments where I thought, “Should I quit?” she told RadioTimes.
The acting industry may look glamorous from the outside looking in, but Nicola said starting out is never easy, especially if you don’t have any connections.
She told the publication, “It’s a difficult industry to break into, and I didn’t have any connections or money.
She continued, “It didn’t seem sensible for me to keep going, but I got Derry Girls at 30, which was an amazing turning point.”
Derry Girls was only the beginning for the Irish actress, with Nicola landing a role in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, as well as lead roles in Bridgerton and Big Mood.
She may be one of the finest Irish actresses, but Nicola’s activism is just as remarkable as her acting career.
She recently raised over €120,000 for trans charities after the Supreme Court ruling last month.
Nicola Coughlan launched a fundraiser to help support the trans community after the UK’s Supreme Court ruling to exclude transgender women from the definition of ‘woman’ under the Equality Act 2010.
