Maura Higgins is being praised for her take on the assumption that women should be able to ‘keep a man’
Maura spoke out recently on the ‘We Need To Talk’ podcast with Paul C. Brunson, discussing the truth behind her rise to fame and how she faired being flung into the spotlight.
The ex-Love Island star's dating life has been front and centre in the media since her exit from the famous Majorca villa and she wasn’t shy speaking about her opinion on ‘keeping a man’.
She slammed the outdated concept that a woman should put up with behaviour she doesn’t like just to keep face in a relationship that’s so public.
Speaking to Brunson she said: “‘She can’t keep a man’, she doesn’t want to keep that man.
“Like, do I want to keep a cheater? Do I want to keep a narcissist? Do I want to keep a mental abuser? Someone who disrespects me every single day? Absolutely not.
She went on to say that the most empowering thing a woman can do is step away from a relationship, knowing it’s not the right person for you.
“I think it’s quite empowering to know when to walk away and not put up with that shit and I just won’t put with it.”
Then she spoke about the fact that even if she never meets someone, she is happy on her own and has enough self-love that she doesn’t need someone to make her feel fulfilled.
“Maybe I’ll never have a man because of that, I don’t feel I need one. Do I want one? Yea, that would be nice.
“I want a family, I would love a husband but I don’t need one, I genuinely don’t. If it doesn’t happen, I’m absolutely fine.
“I’ve got enough self-love, so I’m like whatever.”
The comments flooded in in support of the 33-year-old, with one person writing: “Brilliant interview… such a real person, I love Maura.”
Another added: “I needed to hear this today,” while a third commented, “Absolutely love her. She knows her self-worth. She doesn’t need a man. She deserves someone amazing and nothing less.”
